My name is Kelly Matheson and I am a Registered Dietitian working at a hospital in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. I completed my undergraduate and graduate studies in Applied Human Nutrition/Nutritional Sciences in Ontario. I am registered with the College of Dietitians of Ontario, and a Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE).
Registered Dietitian by day, renegade blogger by night. My passion is all things food: the science, the cooking, the teaching, and of course the ranting and raving of it. Everyone has their opinions on food, I’m here to provide mine!
I think this passion started when I was in High School. I was out of shape, I had limited understanding about food and I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life (what 16 year old does?). I decided to take a “Food and Nutrition” class as an elective where I learned about carbs, protein, fat and how the Maillard reaction goes down. Instantly I was hooked! Fast forward 13 years and I’m still reading nutrition magazines in my spare time, pinning recipes on my Pinterest board and ranting to my work colleagues about the latest Dr. Oz debacle. I decided to start a blog not only to put my thoughts into print (to the internet, natch), but to educate and inspire you to love all things food. This blog is intended for anyone (from children to older adults in ANY profession) who are interested in taking control of their own health. Hopefully I can give you some new ideas, tips and tricks on how to get back in the kitchen and “live to eat” again. Food is not just what we put in our mouths, chew and swallow. It is the thing that can shape cultures, brings people together and gets us talking.
